building blocks……………

March 11, 2011

I got to pop into the Gee’s Bend Quilt show at the University of Mississippi Museum of Art in Oxford this morning after my great breakfast meeting with Amelia proprietor Erin Abbott Kirkpatrick– my new partner in crime(stay tuned). The show was thoughtful and I loved that the quilts ebb and flow with the stitching, they are not perfect and straight-also with the dating of the quilts around 1972 you see interesting hints of history-a red, white, and blue VOTE fabric for instance. Also the idea that the artists/quilters are close and their artistic ideas are shared and developed collectively…..mother influences daughter influences friend and neighbor.  Alot like my breakfast with Erin!
