Building transparency

September 14, 2011

From Tami Wedekind

Reiko Sudo’s book SUKE’SUKE’  features her sheer
fabrics.  Architect Toyo Ito wrote an essay on translucency

for the book. Pictured here is Feather Flurries, 1994,  Silk, feathers.
A complex process of double weave on a computer-driven loom,
where the loom is brought to a stop, each feather is hand inserted in its
pocket and the loom is started up again (and again, and again).
She calls it in-layering.
