building future

June 4, 2012

Well, the big draw for us to go to Bennington graduation this past weekend was to see the recently finished and much admired CAPA Center by Tod Williams and Billie Tsien. Having known Williams and Tsien from SCI-Arc and meeting them here in NYC early in our career; seeing a building of theirs at my beloved alma mater was wonderful.  The best part of getting to know the building was this space; refered to in the press and by the “grown-ups” as a folly. The space is open all hours (as are most Bennington spaces) and evidently is in use by students in many ways, drumming circles, conflict resolution meetings, and the like. Beautiful clear materials throughout and a clarity of purpose that defy “programing” and “mission statement” procedures. beautiful-thank you.
