on the street
New York is packed with very good design and if you live here its hard to stop and take some time to be in good design. An early News Years resolution for me is going to be if I see something good on the street, through the glass, I will stop, chat with people and share it with you. The consequence may be that the images might not be a sexy but I want you to go in experience the space and see how people and events are operating. Real design lessons beyond the online image.
So first up, is a really dynamic space in the City College area is this new pediatric clinic by dutch designer Marleen Kaptein. The powerful design work literally came forward to my eye through the storefront. There are so many good ideas and ways to deal with tight budget situations. One, graffiti on the HVAC ducts – brilliant, landscape furniture via a pallet type composition, and great use of color-even on electrical conduit. I really admire this work.
