design on the street

November 26, 2012

This might be a musing more than a post but I wanted to talk about something I have actually seen rather than experienced via the web. So, the only design one might see on an eight hour drive from mid-coast Maine to Brooklyn is Target. The holiday decor is in abundance and I spotted two objects that turned my attention. First a pretty large white, seemly 3-D printed reindeer head. I think it is too large for current printers but I was so taken with the fact that materially it felt like the pristine starch composite of 3-D printers, a trend?

Next up is the cable knit star? I think this would have been such a cute DIY, Pinterest type of thing but buy it at Target? Really? I would love to know how other people feel about these material and value shifts in the market place.
