2012-12-5 Ackerman Stories from the Bible

From Tami

This week we lost Evelyn Ackerman.  A great craftswomen and artist of the mid-century movement known as a California modernism master.  She worked across many mediums and had the ability to bring out the inherent beauty in each.  Her Stories from the Bible, cloisonné, 1984-1985 are so amazing… someday I will make a pilgrimage to see them in person in the permanent collection of the
Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

I think i was still ‘hungover’ from the cool pink (hot) tiles in the previous post, I thought these cloisonné works were tiles, like Pewabic or Moravian pottery. Stories, yum.

She was from Detroit apparently. She may have seen the Pewabic tile there. ?. So many influences.
