Miriam Wosk 2

From Tami

I recently caught this exhibit of Miriam Wosk’s exuberant work at the Santa Monica Museum of Art.  She started her career as a commercial artist in New York and moved to Santa Monica to pursue her art.  Her exuberant worlds created through painting and collage are mesmerizing and leave you hopeful.  Pearls, glitter, crystals, starfish, collaged images, and  other vivid ornamentation create rich landscapes.  She has said her paintings took a different turn when she arrived in California. “My paintings reflected the light, the joyous, uplifting attitude of being in California.  I started putting jewels in the work right away…”   It’s a drug this California light…I can’t kick the habit.
We lost her much to soon…catch the show if you can through April 20.

My detail image of her work The Grotto, 2006.
