American Hustle comp From Benjamin

Not only are the sets for historical-fiction drama American Hustle acutely accurate for the very late 1970s period they depict, but as the best production design usually does, it transcends mere backdrop, reflecting and expanding upon the characters it serves.

Oscar-nominated Judy Becker (Production Design) & Heather Loeffler (Set Decoration) purposefully avoided the decade’s earlier, more familiar but flatter avocado, mustard, and apricot laminates for the brighter, brassier and hedonistic textures that make such striving, high-rolling con artists of the Abscam-era as glamorous and fun to watch on their way up … or down.  The Art Directors Guild takes you behind the scenes.
